Council Member Dave Martin Encourages Kingwood and Lake Houston Area
Residents to Participate in the Recover Lake Houston Plea For Three
Houston, TX - On November 13, in a news article (https://ourtribune.com/headlines/martin-explains-san-jacinto-river-issues-at-tirz-meeting.html) distributed to the Kingwood Community, Council Member Dave Martin was quoted at the Lake Houston Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ 10) meeting, asking community members to "show up" and speak out for their community. It was communicated to the District E office that community members misunderstood the article as Council Member Martin asking community members to "show up" at the upcoming TIRZ 10 meetings.
Council Member Martin appreciates the support and interest that has been received the last couple of weeks, but attending the TIRZ 10 meeting was not what Council Member Martin meant by "show up". Council Member Martin's comments were meant to ask members of the community to rise up as a community and get involved in the overall process of recovery and mitigation. Council Member Martin continues to fight for District E but without a unified voiced from the community, our pleas for help will be forgotten.
TIRZ 10 meetings are open to the public and residents are welcome to attend, but the focus of TIRZ 10 is to provide mobility improvements to the Kingwood area. There are no flood or natural disaster topics on the TIRZ 10 agenda at this time.
The best way for the community to "show up" now is to participate in the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Plea for Three Initiative,
http://www.lakehouston.org/recoverlakehouston
which seeks to achieve swift and immediate actions. There will be more opportunities to get involved in the future but it is important for the community to strike now and ask for these immediate actions to take place by participating in the Plea for Three.
Please share the Plea for Three information with your neighbors and family, and encourage them to contact the officials identified in the Plea for Three through the letter template provided at http://www.lakehouston.org/recoverlakehouston
Council Member Martin is doing all that he can to engage local elected officials, but community participation is essential in making this effort a success. The Governor and Lieutenant Governor know that Kingwood is Strong, but we are hurting and need their help to reduce future flooding in our area.
