Gates Open at Lake Houston Spillway

4/5/2021
Mayor Pro Tem Martin would like to make Lake Houston residents aware, Houston Public Works is lowering Lake Houston by 6 inches today, April 6, from 42.5 feet to 42 feet to allow contractors to conduct surveys around the spillway for the Lake Houston Flood Gates Project. Property owners should secure property along the shoreline.

The surveying is expected to be complete tomorrow, April 6. Once completed, Lake Houston will be allowed to return to normal pool, 42.5 feet, through refilling via rainfall. To monitor current water levels at Lake Houston, visit

Additionally, the San Jacinto River Authority (SJRA) has begun their seasonal lake lowering of Lake Conroe for the spring. Currently, Lake Conroe is at 200.78 feet and is releasing water to lower the lake from 201 ft down to 200 ft. This is one foot lower than their normal operating level of 201 ft and will conclude on June 1. This one-foot reduction adds additional capacity to Lake Conroe during our area's rainy season. The level of Lake Conroe can be observed on the SJRA website
