January Library Programs @ Kingwood Branch Library

December 21, 2020 - Kingwood Branch Library offers the following programs in January 2021.  All programs are free. Please note that all programs are currently taking place

Children Programs

Children’s programs are hosted via Facebook live at https://www.facebook.com/kingwoodlibrary unless otherwise noted. Tickets or registration may be required; limited tickets are available prior to program.

Weekly Story Times and Events

Virtual Little Seedlings Toddler Time, Wednesdays, 10:00 AM and 10:30 AM.

Join us each Wednesday on Facebook Live at 10:00 am for virtual Toddler Time! This themed activity time will include new songs for your child to learn, book recommendations, and a make-along craft. Crafts for the week can be picked up at our drive-thru window beginning Mondays at 10:00 am. Crafts will be given on a first-come first-serve basis; supplies are limited. To view the week's activity and see instructions for the make-along craft, tune into our Facebook live.

Virtual Baby Sprouts Play and Learn, Tuesdays at 10:00 AM.

Join us each Tuesday on Facebook Live at 10:00 am for alternating weeks of flannel board storytelling and basic concept learning activities.

Sapling Activity Time for Preschoolers, Thursdays at 10:00 AM.

Join us each Thursday on Facebook Live at 10:00 am for virtual Sapling Activity Time! This themed activity time will include new songs for your child to learn, book recommendations, and a make-along craft. Crafts for the week can be picked up at our drive-thru window beginning Mondays at 10:00 am. Crafts will be given on a first-come first-serve basis; supplies are limited. OLOGY, Thursdays at 4:00 PM.

Are you interested in Paleontology or Zoology? Discover the world around you through OLOGY. The suffix "ology" means "the study of." Join us each week we will discover a new "ology" through fun crafts, activities, and books. What will you discover this week? This program is suggested for ages 6-12 years old. No registration is required.


Teen Programs


Teen programs are open to teens and tweens entering grades 6-12. Some programs require permission slips or registration. Monday, January 4, 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM: Pictionary. Virtual Meeting on Discord.

Are you ready for some fun and games? Join other teens as we virtually play Skribbl.io, a drawing and guessing game. Lots of hilarity and fun! We meet on Monday, January 4, from 4:30-5:30, on the KW Teen Discord server. Email kwteens@hcpl.net for an invite!

Monday, January 11, 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM: Teen Advisory Group. Virtual Meeting on Discord.

If you’re a teen and interested in earning volunteer hours at the library, then the Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is the place to be! Join our virtual TAG and meet up with other teens to discuss favorite fandoms, books, games, music, and more. Also, learn about an opportunity to earn more library service hours from home! This month’s meeting will be on Monday, January 11, from 4:30-5:30 PM, on the KW Teen Discord. Email kwteens@hcpl.net for an invite!

Monday, January 25, 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM: Teen Book Club. Virtual Meeting on Discord.

Teen Book Club is getting crafty! Every month sign-up to receive your very own book club binge box that contains a book (or two!) covering the month’s theme, along with theme-related crafts and items. All items will be a surprise until you receive your box!

After you register for your binge box, wait for the email saying it is ready, then come to the Kingwood Library Drive-Through to pick it up. Enjoy your book and craft during the month and join us for our book club discussion on Monday, January 25, at 4:30-5:30 PM, on the KW Teen Discord.

January’s theme is cozy winter short stories.

Binge Boxes are limited to teens in grades 6-12 and are available on a first come, first served basis. Sign-up begins on January 4, 2021. To register, email kwteens@hcpl.net, with your name and grade level.

Wednesday, January 6, 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Online Adult Coloring. Virtual Meeting on Microsoft Teams.

Join us for an interactive coloring experience. Register now and you will receive a link to join a live Teams meeting. Almost any device that can connect to internet will work. No need to download anything. Links to coloring pages will be emailed for you to print. If you need printed pages, email or call us.

Wednesday, January 6, 7:00 PM – 8:45 PM: Mystery Book Club. Virtual Meeting on Zoom.

For November 4, the Mystery Book Club is reading A Beautiful Blue Death, by Charles Finch. The first book in the Charles Lennox series is set in late 1865. The meeting will take place by Zoom at our usual time of 7:00 pm on the first Wednesday of each month. Interested readers need to contact the library at kw@hcpl.net for an invitation to the Zoom meeting.

ENCORE! is operated by Harris County Precinct 4 Senior Adult Program and is open to ages 50 years and older. Transportation is free to and from Kingwood Branch Library. Wednesday, January 27, 9:00 AM – TBD: ENCORE! Resale Shop Hop.
Precinct 4 Encore! invites everyone 50 years of age and above to rummage through two of Houston’s premier resale shops. Find something different each and every time you shop, including name brand clothing, purses, bags, household items, and so much more! Due to COVID 19 precautions, day trips will not include a lunch stop. Feel free to pack your snacks to enjoy during a rest break or purchase during a stop.
